What to do in Rome

Many people want to come to Rome because of the ever popular Lizzy McGuire movie. If you were too distracted by Paolo's rugged good looks to pay attention to some of the best places to visit, here's a short guide:

The Colosseum

The only fighting you'll be doing at the colosseum nowadays is against the hoards of tourists, but the colosseum is a classic staple of Rome that you have to see.

The Roman Forum

The Roman Forum's entry fee is typically coupled with the colosseum's as they were both pinnacles to Roman life 2000 years ago. Definitely check it out if you're remotely interested in history or ancient ruins!

Contemporary Art Museum (Galleria Nazionale D'Arte Moderna)

A little ways from the city center, this museum is quieter than a lot of the tourist spots and it features some Monet and other fun artists.

Papal Village

The pope's vacation home is in Castel Gandolfo, which is about an hour away from the vatican by train. There are some vatican city tours that take you there; if you can, get a tour of the papal gardens: they're very quiet (very few tourists) and gorgeous. MAKE SURE YOU CHECK OUT ANTICO RISTORANTE PAGNANELLI! They have an insane wine cellar with thousands of bottles, many of which were signed by famous American celebrities (Steve Jobs, Tom Cruise, etc).

The Pantheon

The Pantheon is free and is super significant in Roman/the world's architectural history (check out the tiered concrete dome!!).

Trevi Fountain

Who knows if you'll find your Paolo, but you can always wish for him by throwing a coin over your left shoulder while you're facing away from Rome's most famous fountain.

Piazza Navona

The Piazza Navona is the less cramped cousin of the trevi fountain, but there's a lot more going on: shops, performances, and fun architecture.

The Spanish Steps

I would recommend going to the Spanish steps at sunset, as the city views are scenic, the steps aren't as hot, and, most importantly, the police officers that tell you where you should and shouldn't sit aren't usually around!!

St. Peter's

St. Peter's is great for art history nerds on both the outside and inside. The interior houses 2 famous Bernini sculptures, and the outside is just fucking cool.
